A Hidden Garden

You will stumble upon mysteries while traveling the canals of Venice.

While on a gondola ride through the canals of Venice, my wife and I stumbled upon this walled garden. We floated beneath the honeysuckle branches and I maneuvered the camera to snap a few shots of the scene. The one above remains my favorite, because it feels like the mystery of what lay behind is just barely out of reach.

Perhaps with a short hop I could view the remainder of the garden.

Except for the very shaky gondola under my feet. I can imagine that I would invoke the wrath of the gondolier if I were to try such a stunt. My wife would also not be a very big fan of me leaving the boat mid stream. She would definitely be upset if I fell out of the boat.

It was fun to dream, even for a moment of what lay just beyond the black wrought iron. Instead, I have to content myself with a parting shot, to remind me of the folly of the thought.

I love to explore these magical and wondrous places with my wife, so long as I remember my limits.
