One of the most amazing stops on our journey through Italy was the Roman Forum. You get a true sense of history in the many layers of buildings that surround you. The Temple Vesta looms large over the whole forum as the path winds downward into the historic area. Julius Caesar had many of the structures of this area built.

As we walked down the path into the forum I stopped to snap the macro shot of this beautiful flower. Below is a wider shot for perspective.

You can see that the flowers are growing right out of an ancient structure. Brick layers once placed these bricks carefully in order, building a wall for a purpose. Today, though they are a ruin, they remind us of our past, and carry a beautiful promise for our future.

Stop and take a moment today to enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. But also take that time to reflect on what got you to this moment. What lessons of your history informs your present day?
