Surprise Crab

This little leopard crab was hiding on the beach. I watched as the sand fell away from his body. I took a moment to pull up my camera, and framed him in the shot.

He stopped in the middle of digging himself out to give me this very grumpy faced pose. Perhaps he was hoping to dig himself out without any observers. Unfortunately for him, my camera was ready to capture the moment.

After a moment of shared amusement, he scuttled away, into the surf.

This photo was taken on Captiva Island at the end of the 2018 red tide season. There was very little to photograph, because the bloom was so devastating . Perhaps this is why my friendly little crab here was so grumpy that day.

I am grateful that he shared that moment before running off to the water.
