When Love Blossoms

Love is often found after hard life lessons.

My wife and I each had a difficult journey that we walked before we met one another. Life seems to have worked out that way, at least for our coupling.

When I was younger, I thought I knew everything I needed to know, and I acted accordingly. That often left me trying to shove square pegs into round holes. I thought I knew best, and often forced what I believed onto others, since I knew so well what everyone else needed.

Needless to say, that didn’t work out in the long run.

I’ve come to understand that for all I learned, I barely scratched the surface of what there is to know, especially concerning love and relationships.

For this new relationship to blossom, I needed to let go of past faults and habits. I have to respect the other in my life for her own wants, needs, and desires. If I help her flourish, then she helps me grow. Together, we make a stronger union than either of us would be individually.

Thankfully, we are blessed to have been formed by those experiences, without being bitter to them. I believe we did this by being thankful for the lessons and forgiving to ourselves and others for our past troubles.

This loving, trusting, fulfilling relationship comes to fruition because of all the hard lessons learned in previous relationships. We just couldn’t be who we are for each other today, without all of those life experiences adding up.

What blessings do you have in your life that came from overcoming past experiences?
